How to Write Address on Envelope in India?

In, India the correct way to write the address of any location in its domestic territory is incomplete without mentioning the pin code. Pin code is the numeric digit, which helps identify the various local regions and areas within a district. While sending an envelope, you must write the address of the person whom you’re sending on front. Your address should be on the backside. It is accepted either way whether you print it or write on the envelope with your hands. A minimum space of 15mm should be there from the border of the envelope to where the text is starting. Alternatively, it is noticed that people in India often place the sender’s address on the bottom right side. The address of the person to whom the envelope is being sent is on the top left corner. Whether the receiver of the envelope is a company, organization, or individual, the guideline remains the same.

For private courier companies, their guidelines may vary from each other. But, in most cases, it followed the official guidelines of postal services. Hence, a person can choose either the private companies or the government agency for sending an envelope. While the private courier companies are faster and charge more, they consider the government service safer and cheaper.

If they find an envelope that does not follow the standard guidelines, then either return it to the sender itself or kept with the postal authorities until the sender approaches or contacts. Each envelope should be accompanied by a government-approved and issued stamp. Apart from this, any standard bar code number or tag can be attached on the front side. There are standard sizes for the envelopes as well which are accepted. As most of the work in Indian Postal Services is through human intervention, it usually takes time to receive an order. Also, India being a large country, the transit of envelope can depend on the type of service selected. For instance, for standard postal service, it might take up to a week. With speed post or other quicker options, a courier can be received within 3-4 days.
