Brother of Ms. Maasha reported that Ms. Maasha is nine months pregnant and was beaten on the stomach by riot police with batons. Brother of Ms Maasha reported that Ms Maasha was treated at IGMH hospital emergency room and remains distressed and in constant pain. Brother of Ms Maasha reported the police had threatened to arrest the entire family, including three and eight year old children.
Brother of Ms. Maasha reported that reporters from Udhares, Minivan and Fiyes newspapers were present at the hospital but were prevented from taking pictures of Ms. Maasha by the police. Brother of Ms. Maasha reported that the police had themselves videotaped the entire event.
Brother of Ms. Maasha reported that his younger brother informed him by telephone that the police had since raided their house and were looking for him. Brother of Ms. Maasha reported that his younger brother informed him that the police waited at the house until approximately 04:00 on 15 August 2005 and had threatened to tear the older brother apart.
Brother of Ms Maasha reported that a one and a half year old child at their home had suffered an asthma attack due to tear gas on 13 August 2005. Brother of Ms. Maasha reported that he had witnessed the police beating and apprehending another boy called Shifan in his house.
Brother of Ms. Maasha reported that his mother and his stepsister went to the Human Rights Commission on 15 August 2005 to complain about the incident. Brother of Ms. Maasha noted that his stepsister was the wife of Shuaib Ali, a recently detained member of the principal opposition party.
